Latin name:  Arctostaphylos uva-ursi
Common names:  bearberry, kinnikinnick, sandberry, red bearberry, bilberry, bear's grape, barren myrtle

Mature height:  groundcover

Soil/Climate:  Prefers sand or well drained gravelly light loam.  Sun or partial shade.

Notes:  Evergreen.  Ground cover, up to 5 feet across.  Eliptical, shiny, dark green leaves.  Red or pink fruit that holds throughout the winter.

Wildlife:  Necter is popular with hummingbirds.  Fruit is eaten by ruffed grouse.
