North American Beech Trees

Beech trees once earned the nickname “The Tree of Learning” because these deciduous trees were some of the first trees used to create books. Over the years, the wood from Beech trees has also been used for several other things, including furniture, smoking cheeses, and even brewing beers. Those aren’t the only aspects that make the American Beech (Fagus grandifolia) trees for sale through Cold Stream Farm unique.

Where the North American Beech Tree Grows

North American Beech trees flourish when they’re placed into moist soils. They do best when placed into soil that is both well-watered and well-drained. At the same time, the American Beech (Fagus grandifolia) trees from Cold Stream Farm have also gained a reputation for being some of the most shade tolerant trees around. They usually grow to be anywhere from 60 to 100 feet tall and are unisexual deciduous trees that include both male and female flowers growing on them. They produce nuts that can attract wild turkeys, ruffed grouse, woodpeckers, raccoons, squirrels, opossums, and other types of wildlife.

About the American Beech Tree

When you purchase American Beech trees from Cold Stream Farm, rest assured knowing you’re getting hardy trees that can live for up to 300 years. However, it’s worth noting you will have to watch American Beech (Fagus grandifolia) trees for signs of disease. Beech bark disease has wreaked havoc on Beech trees in the northeastern part of the U.S. in recent years. Beech trees can also be susceptible to damage when they’re exposed to flooding, frost, and fires.
